TRANSPARENCY EXHIBITED AT TEACHERS RECRUITMENT EXERCISE

Mr. Babatunde Raji Fashola SAN, Governor of Lagos State has said that everybody will be given the opportunity to serve in the state irrespective of state of origin. He made this assertion yesterday while addressing the 507 trainee teachers of the Special Intervention Programme in Education.

Addressing the finalists, who were engaged to provide extra grounding for the final year students of the state’s public senior secondary schools towards the   forthcoming West African School Certificate Examination (WASCE).

Governor Fashola said the programme was meant to reinforce commitments made by his administration especially that of providing job opportunities, rehabilitation or construction of schools, laboratories, provision of textbooks, training and re-training of teachers amongst others which are meant to improve the education sector’s output.

He added that the 507 graduates in the core subjects should count themselves lucky as they are being trusted with the future of the young people who need to be encouraged and by implication, that of Nigeria in general as they are part of those trusted to help improving the results of our students in the examination.

Governor Fashola, while emphasizing the importance of transparency in all ramifications because you can only be respected by practicing what you preach; said the programme has also helped reaffirmed the state government’s goal of making the Public Service Staff Development Centre (PSSDC) as the foremost human capacity development centre in the state.

Prof. Noah stressed thirty-two lecturers, examiners and assessors were drawn via head hunting, publications and recommendations from Lagos State University, University of Lagos, Osun State University while marking of scripts was done at home using global standards to avert undue interference. Mr. Rotimi Bakare, a graduate of Industrial Chemistry, in his assessment of the programme, saw it as a great challenge to them as they were employed based purely on transparency and merit and pledged total commitment to duty.
